Translating is a kind of creative language artistic work. Translation Standard is not only the measure of good translation work but also the aim we have to reach.
About the standard of translation, the opinions were widely divided, and each airs his own views. Precision and fluency are the two words used as criteria of measuring the quality of translating practice, which are the most common standard. It can be explained as follows.
- The thoughts should match between translation and the original text.
- The taste and the form of the translation work should be corresponding to the original one.
- The translation should as fluent and natural as original.
As the translator, he needs excellent Chinese and English language ability, rich vocabulary, outstanding capability of ruling sentences, and the whole grasp of English linguistic literature theories, comprehension of the research current situation and trends, good spoken and written English, knowing the difference of cultures, placing precision first, and meanwhile, fluency and plain. So, translator has to weight words by words again and again. Under the condition of owning good language basic skills and the special inventive mind, translation work can reach the satisfactory results expected.
